I am honored to serve as the President of the Colorado Academy in 2010-2011. Much has changed for audiologists in Colorado since I was a member of the steering committee which charted this organization 20 years ago. I am pleased to report with confidence that the state of audiology in Colorado is stronger than ever! Your Board represents you enthusiastically and proactively as we strategize to reach our goals for 2011 and beyond. You are represented by members in a variety of practice settings with a variety of experience levels but all with the goal of fostering the growth, development, recognition, and status of the profession of Audiology and its members.
We have our work cut out for us this year and our agenda includes the goals of:
- Preparing a position statement and creating evidence to support the continued licensure of audiologists in Colorado
- Increasing membership and membership involvement
- Expanding opportunities for public awareness in the state
- Strengthening relationships with other health care professional organizations
- Continuing to offer a world class program at the annual convention
I encourage each of you to contemplate these goals and consider contributing to the efforts of one of our committees. We will be as successful as our combined resources allow. Our members are our most valuable resource and with your help we could exponentially expand our activities and the awareness of our profession to other professionals and to the community.
If you have not renewed your 2011 dues, it is not too late. If you have, it is not too late to recruit a colleague to join. We need to represent all Colorado Audiologists as we prepare to not only defend our license during the Sunset process but to even strengthen it. A strong license defines a profession and now is the time to represent all of you in this process.
Please do not hesitate to contact me directly or any member of our board to give us your input and let us know how we can best represent you. There are more audiologists in Colorado then ever before and we can represent you the best when we hear from you.
Best wishes,
Sandra Gabbard
